The Resurrection Project (TRP) is excited to be part of a National Fair Housing Media Campaign, in partnership with the National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders (NALCAB), the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development (National CAPACD) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), designed to engage and educate people about their rights as homeowners and tenants.

Using social media, public service announcements, and community outreach, partner organizations in 10 different cities including Chicago will inform residents on how to identify various forms of housing discrimination and what they can do to stop it.

“Racial and ethnic discrimination against homebuyers and renters continues to be a problem across many communities in the United States,” said Raul Raymundo, TRP’s CEO. “We thank NALCAB and HUD for making these vital resources available so that we can educate Chicago residents about their fair housing rights.”

The National Fair Housing Media Campaign, launched in August, and will engage and inform AfricanAmericans, Latinos, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders, and other communities about discriminatory housing practices, their rights under the federal Fair Housing Act, and HUD resources.

According to the National Fair Housing Alliance, minority homebuyers and tenants are not always aware when they have been subjected to discrimination or even of their rights and protections afforded by the Fair Housing Act.

The federal Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability. Persons who believe they have experienced discrimination may file a complaint by contacting HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity at (800) 669-9777 (voice) or (800) 927-9275 (TTY). Housing discrimination complaints may also be filed at https://www.hud.gov/fairhousing
