First Cohort of Parent Leaders Graduate at Everett Elementary
by Mayra Lopez
Recently, parents proudly displayed their certificates of achievement. Alma Silva, TRP’s Community Organizer, graduated the first cohort of Parent Leaders at Everett Elementary School in the McKinley Park neighborhood. There were 24 parents who successfully completed the nine-week parent leadership course.
Principal Rojas from the school heard about the success of TRP’s Parent Leader program from his wife, who had implemented the parent mentor program in her classroom at Seward Elementary.
Both of them are believers of community investment and they are champions and advocates of parent engagement in public schools.
“I’m excited to see that in the nine weeks parent engagement has increased and parents have become a lot more committed and thoughtful in the way they exude their leadership at the school,” said Principal Rojas.
As a result of TRP’s partnership, Principal Rojas extended another invitation to continue with a level two course at the school for nine weeks. The goal is to continue providing parent leadership workshop in all the areas TRP serves in order to build healthy communities. Congratulations again to these new parent leaders!
