After months of waiting, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. In a 2-1 decision, ruled against the Obama administration in the latest development of Texas, et al. v. United States, et al., the 26-state challenge to President Obama’s executive actions on immigration.
“This delay means that our families continue to face deportation, we remain committed towards fighting for legalization for all immigrants and the implementation of the President’s executive actions,” says Erendira Rendon, TRP’s Director of Organizing.
Obama’s actions, announced almost a year ago, included the expansion of for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and creates the program DAPA which would provide deportation relief to parents of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents, or green card holders.
The White House Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) estimates that these executive actions would, over the next 10 years, increase Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by at least 0.4 percent ($90 billion) or as much as 0.9 percent ($210 billion).
In April, the Resurrection Project (TRP) joined more than 150 civil, labor, and immigrants’ rights groups in an amicus (“friend of the court”) brief urging the fifth circuit court to uphold the President’s actions.
“We are frustrated and angry about the decision, but we are not surprised,” said Raul Raymundo, CEO of The Resurrection Project (TRP). “We will continue to fight and are confident the Supreme Court will affirm the President’s executive order. We will continue to urge and inform all eligible for the first DACA program to keep applying and keep renewing as this ruling does not affect this program.”
TRP’s next DACA workshop will be Saturday November 21st at 9am at Cornell Square Park at 1809 W 50th Street, Chicago, IL – For more info. on this workshop call 312-763-3487
