TRP Supports Students, Parents, and Schools Through the Tax Credit Scholarship That Gives Hardworking Families More School Options
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, March 27, 2019 — On Monday, March 11th, hundreds of families joined together at St. Agnes of Bohemia’s school gym to thank elected leaders for supporting the Illinois State Tax Credit Scholarship. Over $2 million in state scholarships have been awarded to low-income families in Pilsen, Little Village, Back of the Yards, Brighton Park, and Summit. The program has benefitted over 6,500 students state-wide this year.
“My husband was laid off after 10 years at a butcher shop, the Tax Credit Scholarship kept our sons enrolled in school, my son fled a charter school because of bullying…the scholarship gives us peace”, said Graciela, mother of four children, two of whom are recipients of the Tax Credit Scholarship this year.
This past January, over 40,000 students applied for the scholarship. Economic barriers should not block families’ access to quality education. This scholarship gives families a choice.
