Nueva Vida February 2014: The TRP Newsletter

A message from Raul Raymundo

Dear friends and supporters,
All of us at The Resurrection Project expect great things this year for our neighbors, partners, and communities. With this in mind TRP immediately got to work to build upon last year’s successes.
One of our first victories of 2014 was a new partnership with Northeastern Illinois University, which is making a commitment to expanding their programs and services to students in Pilsen through La Casa Student Housing. This is the first of what we hope are many partnerships aimed at expanding the higher education opportunities and resources available to young people at La Casa and in our communities. Meanwhile, La Casa’s students continue to live, learn, and thrive as they work together toward their degrees—and they continue to inspire us with their stories of personal courage and dedication.
While we continue to fight for immigration reform, we’re also working to help people who are already residents take the next step toward citizenship. We hosted the first of several free Citizenship Enrollment workshops to help people navigate the citizenship application process. Many of the participants have expressed a strong desire to become more civically engaged as citizens, which is why TRP and its partners are doing everything we can to help empower them.
Healthy communities also depend on good physical health, which is why TRP volunteers are also working with partners to host informational workshops on the Affordable Care Act. Our goal is to ensure our communities have the knowledge and resources they need to sign up for affordable health insurance.
There are signs everywhere that our communities are getting stronger—even in our local schools. And with historic immigration reform on the horizon, it’s more important than ever for our communities to lead the way with their voice and strength.
As always, thank you for your continued faith and trust in our mission to create healthy communities throughout Chicago’s Southwest side.
Sincerely,
Raul Raymundo
