La Casa wins ALA and NBCUniversal awards

by Lyndsi Barboza
We are proud to announce that The Resurrection Project’s La Casa Student Housing initiative was recently granted two awards:  the Association of Licensed Architects 2012 Design Award and NBCUniversal Foundations–Comcast 21st Century Solutions Award.
La Casa, an innovative community-based dormitory in the Pilsen community, will serve 100 college students with housing, internships, and mentorship programs. La Casa is comprised of two buildings: a six-story dormitory containing five- and six-bedroom suites for students, and a one-story Resource Center dedicated to serving La Casa current and prospective students with TRP-sponsored workshops, college access programming, a computer lab, and study and social space.
In coordination with their annual giving program, NBCUniversal Foundation–Comcast gave a total of $100,000 to Chicago nonprofit organizations implementing ‘new and innovative’ programs in 2012. Along with two other organizations in Chicago, TRP received a $25,000 award in support of La Casa’s education enrichment and attainment programming. The Resurrection Project staff, program participants, and supporters were invited to an awards ceremony hosted by NBC on January 30th, wherein TRP celebrated its victory alongside the company of co-winners, Project Syncere and Chicago Lights.
The Resurrection Project is grateful to both organizations for these awards and their support.
