Casa Maravilla tenants travel to Springfield for Capitol's Lobby Day

On Thursday, March 3rd over 40 community members including Resurrection Project tenants from Casa Maravilla, members from Centro Toribio Romo Immigrant Center and parishioners from Saint Agnes of Bohemia parish packed a bus and two cars and headed down to Springfield on a mission to talk to their state elected officials. It has become a tradition; this time of year hundreds of immigrant advocates flood the halls of the state capital to ensure that the state assembly is doing the best it can be for all the immigrants and refugees in the state.

On February 18th 2011, The Resurrection Project, in partnership with Instituto Del Progreso Latino, broke ground on the construction of the Instituto Heath Sciences Academy. The high school is addressing the profound shortage of Latinos and other urban youth in the health care field in Illinois and ensuring parents and students have a high-quality educational option that leads directly to the jobs of the future.

Mayor Daley dedicates new Casa Maravilla senior housing and satellite…

Mayor Richard M. Daley today joined Ald. Danny Solis (25th), The Resurrection Project and members of the Pilsen community to celebrate the grand opening of the Casa Maravilla affordable senior housing facility and satellite senior center located at 2021 S. Morgan St.
“Chicago’s seniors are one of our most valuable assets,” Mayor Daley said. “We depend on our community of seniors to serve as role models to our families and communities and are grateful for the significant contributions they have made to the culture of our neighborhoods and fabric of our city.”
Casa Maravilla offers a comprehensive 73-unit affordable senior rental building and a Senior Satellite Center which will be operated by the Department of Family and Support Services.

On Friday January 28 the Construction Industry Service Corporation (CISCO) announced its Project of the Year award winners as part of its annual Pride in Construction Award Program. The program, which recognizes the top quality union construction projects in four categories, also honors the efforts of an area educator, Illinois public body and labor conciliator. During this event the Resurrection Project & McShane Construction received the Residential Construction Award for our newest buildings Casa Maravilla and Casa Morelos, located in the Pilsen neighborhood.

Families embrace technology at the New Communities Program’s SmartChicago Campaign…

The Pilsen Smart Communities Launch on November 16th brought together the technological expertise of the Instituto Del Progreso Latino and the community organizing approach of The Resurrection Project to Orozco Community Academy for families ready to learn how they can take full advantage of all the benefits that being computer savvy has to offer.
Over 300 parents and their kids participated in presentations and demonstrations on technology-based services available online, such as Skype.

ILDCEO’s Energy Efficient Affordable Housing Program State Grant Awarded to…

On October, 27 2010, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (ILDCEO) held a press conference at The Resurrection Project’s (TRP’s) newest affordable senior rental building Casa Maravilla, to publicize the state efforts to fund more energy efficient affordable housing in Illinois . The grant for a green senior housing project in Chicago that TRP received is part of an effort to create more energy efficient affordable housing in Illinois.

TRP saves the Mendez’ home from a complicated case of…

Angelina Mendez, a 41 year-old local entrepreneur and mother of two, was able to purchase a home close to the convenience store she owns in Little Village. Like many families who have faced the danger of foreclosure, Angelina was able to accommodate the initial payments on her home before her original mortgage terms expired. As is the case for sub-prime loans and adjustable rate mortgages, once the new term expired, her house payments increased dramatically.

Casa Maravilla's Senior Housing is Officially Open

On Tuesday, September 28th community leaders, public servants and neighbors celebrated the official inauguration of TRP’s newest project, Casa Maravilla in a ceremony held the facilities located at 2021 S. Morgan Street, Chicago, IL, 60608. Casa Maravilla provides 73 units of high-quality affordable rental housing to Chicagoland seniors. Honored guests included State Representative Edward Acevedo, State Senator Antonio Munoz and Alderman for the 25th Ward Daniel Solis.

Mujer Avanzando is a program that is responding to the needs of Latina single mothers in Chicago through comprehensive services in career pathways, wealth creation, leadership development, and childcare services.

The Resurrection Project continues to make the rounds in the news.
The Chicago Tribune ran an article on our work with the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) and Proviso Township Mental Health Commission to acquire foreclosed homes and convert them into quality, affordable housing through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. We were proud to serve as both the housing developer and housing counseling agency in this initiative. You can read the article here.
