Northern Illinois Real Estate magazine, January 2011 Published: February 1, 2011 On Friday January 28 the Construction Industry Service Corporation (CISCO) announced its Project of the Year award winners as part of its annual Pride in Construction Award Program. The program, which recognizes the top quality union construction projects in four categories, also honors the efforts of an area educator, Illinois public body and labor conciliator.  During this event the Resurrection Project & McShane Construction received the Residential Construction Award for our newest buildings Casa Maravilla and Casa Morelos, located in the Pilsen neighborhood.

Alex Morales Published: January 18, 2011 The Pilsen Smart Communities Launch on November 16th brought together the technological expertise of the Instituto Del Progreso Latino and the community organizing approach of The Resurrection Project to Orozco Community Academy for families ready to learn how they can take full advantage of all the benefits that being computer savvy has to offer. Over 300 parents and their kids participated in presentations and demonstrations on technology-based services available online, such as Skype.

by Alex Morales Published: January 18, 2011 On ­­October, 27 2010, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (ILDCEO) held a press conference at The Resurrection Project’s (TRP’s) newest affordable senior rental building Casa Maravilla, to publicize the state efforts to fund more energy efficient affordable housing in Illinois .  The grant for a green senior housing project in Chicago that TRP received is part of an effort to create more energy efficient affordable housing in Illinois.

by Alex Morales Published: January 18, 2011 Angelina Mendez, a 41 year-old local entrepreneur and mother of two, was able to purchase a home close to the convenience store she owns in Little Village. Like many families who have faced the danger of foreclosure, Angelina was able to accommodate the initial payments on her home before her original mortgage terms expired. As is the case for sub-prime loans and adjustable rate mortgages, once the new term expired, her house payments increased dramatically.

These leaders are behind the scenes, doing the on-the-ground work of community revitalization but aren’t in the spotlight.  We honor these individuals who have committed themselves to civic engagement and giving back to their community.  They are truly cornerstones; they are foundational to our work and to the work of making their streets and neighborhoods and city a better place to live. 

Published: September 29, 2010 On Tuesday, September 28th community leaders, public servants and neighbors celebrated the official inauguration of TRP’s newest project, Casa Maravilla in a ceremony held the facilities located at 2021 S. Morgan Street, Chicago, IL, 60608.  Casa Maravilla provides 73 units of high-quality affordable rental housing to Chicagoland seniors. Honored guests included State Representative Edward Acevedo, State Senator Antonio Munoz and Alderman for the 25th Ward Daniel Solis.

Published: September 21, 2010 On Thursday October, 21st 2010, over 700 community leaders, elected politicians, volunteers, supporters and friends of The Resurrection Project gathered at the University of Illinois Chicago Forum to celebrate 20 years of building healthy communities.

Alex Morales Published: July 16, 2010 On Tuesday July 12 The Resurrection Project and partners from Instituto del Progreso Latino, and Mujeres Latinas en Acción were invited to showcase the Mujer Avanzando program at the National Council of La Raza's Annual Conference 2010 in San Antonio, Texas.  Mujer Avanzando is a program that is responding to the needs of Latina single mothers in Chicago through comprehensive services in career pathways, wealth creation, leadership development, and childcare services.

The Resurrection Project continues to make the rounds in the news. The Chicago Tribune ran an article on our work with the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) and Proviso Township Mental Health Commission to acquire foreclosed homes and convert them into quality, affordable housing through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. We were proud to serve as both the housing developer and housing counseling agency in this initiative. You can read the article here.

A couple in their early twenties and together for a little over a year, Natalia and Jose had been working with us since early February 2010 when they learned about our homeownership opportunities and toured one of our homes located in the historical Back of the Yards community.

by Jeanette Galicia - New Communities Program Organizer Published: June 17, 2010 In 1999, TRP created the Resurrection Basketball League (RBL), a Friday night youth sports league, to give young people positive recreational alternatives on a Friday. In collaboration with the Chicago Police Department and other community based and civic organizations, RBL takes as many as 60 youth ages  7-18 out every Friday evening from June to August to play basketball in different blocks throughout Pilsen.

by Alex Morales Published: May 13, 2010 On Saturday May  8th, The Resurrection Project  hosted a Home Rescue Fair in partnership with the Alliance for Stabilizing Our Communities  and with support from Bank of America . The event took place at Benito Juarez High School  in Pilsen and received the attention of local press, TV and radio.  The Chicago Home Rescue fair served 274 families by providing H.U.D. certified financial counseling, free legal advice, and loan modifications for those whose lenders were in attendance.  Lenders such as Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Charter One, Indy Mac,  and Chase, among others, were  present to consult  with clients.
