Nueva Vida August 2014: The TRP Newsletter
A message from Raul Raymundo
Dear friends and supporters,
It’s been a busy summer and I’m excited to share all of the great work we’ve been able to accomplish.
Recently, we expanded our community safety initiatives, allowing us to work more closely with youth, residents, nonprofits, and local law enforcement. It began when we kicked off the summer with the Resurrection Basketball League (RBL) and also included safety workshops for residents and youth.
TRP continues the fight for comprehensive immigration reform and immigrant rights. According to the latest numbers from the National Council of La Raza, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) has helped half a million people increase their social and economic contributions to our country. As a result, TRP is increasing our immigration services to include more DACA and citizenship workshops.
We continue to help families invest in their neighborhoods. Our home purchase program helps them buy homes in the community, and our foreclosure prevention counselors are helping struggling families keep their homes. According to a recent Chicago Tribune article, foreclosures are declining nationwide but still rising in Chicago. That’s why at our annual housing fair, we offered participants resources and information on buying a home, as well as free foreclosure prevention counseling.
Over the summer, TRP held a free six-week Entrepreneur Training Program for small business owners, and partnered with other organizations dedicated to improving the physical health of our communities.
In this issue, you’ll read about all these programs and meet the people behind them.
Lastly, I’m excited to announce the launch of TRPtv, our community news program that will give you an inside look at the work we’re doing to create healthy communities. We encourage you to share these new videos with your networks.
As always, thank you for your continued faith and trust in our mission to create healthy communities throughout Chicago’s Southwest side.
Sincerely,
Raul Raymundo
CEO, The Resurrection Project
