Build a Better Tomorrow: We Urge Congress to Pass the Dream Act
Build a Better Tomorrow: We Urge Congress to Pass the Dream Act
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, July 21, 2017 — The Resurrection Project fully endorses the bipartisan action of Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) to re-introduce the DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) into the United States Senate. The DREAM Act grants conditional residency for unauthorized young people and provides them with a pathway towards citizenship. This Act will offer a legislative solution to President Obama’s Executive Order for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program which has provided temporary legal status to almost 800,000 Dreamers who are contributing to the American social fabric – its economy. These Dreamers have courageously stepped forward and shared their immigration status with the US government. These dreamers are also “Making America Great” as patriots; creating jobs and contributing significantly to the economy:
- DACA yields an economic impact of $215 billion and a fiscal impact of $60 billion according to the CATO Institute.
- DACA cancellation would cost the economy $20 billion a year and over $200 billion in the next ten years according to FORBES.
The re-introduction of the DREAM Act is a beacon of hope that will create a better tomorrow for everyone. We urge our members of Congress in both the House of Representatives and Senate to pass the DREAM Act immediately so that our young people can dream, contribute and fight to better the country they have been living in most their lives.
