CHICAGO – September 23, 2024—Today, The Resurrection Project (TRP), a Chicago-based social impact organization, was announced as a commitment-maker at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting in New York. TRP is one of 160 organizations selected through a global, competitive process to join the CGI community in 2024.
CGI Commitments to Action are new, specific, and measurable projects and programs to advance climate resilience, economic inclusion, health equity, humanitarian response, women and girls’ equality, and more. TRP’s Commitment to Action will expand its Colibrí Fellowship to create legal career pathways and increase access to legal services for immigrants in Illinois, Oregon, and two additional states within the next two years.
TRP launched the Colibrí Fellowship in 2022 in response to the rising need for affordable immigration legal services. The Fellowship provides free legal training to nonprofit professionals to prepare them for the Department of Justice (DOJ) Accreditation, a designation that enables non-attorneys to serve as legal representatives in immigration cases. This opens the legal profession to immigrants and others who otherwise face systemic barriers to accessing law school, most notably the soaring cost of tuition. The Colibrí Fellowship increased the total number of accredited representatives in Illinois by more than 10% in just two years. TRP will partner with UnidosUS, Innovation Law Lab, Abundant Futures Fund, and Villanova VIISTA on the expansion.
TRP’s Commitment to Action was announced during CGI 2024 Spotlight Session on The Unwritten Future of Racial Equity. Erendira Rendon, vice president of Immigrant Justice at The Resurrection Project, was invited onstage for the announcement.

TRP is a leading provider of affordable housing, financial education, community wellness, and immigration services on Chicago’s Southwest side.
During the past three decades, TRP has worked to improve the lives of individuals and families by creating wealth, building assets, and engaging residents to be catalysts for change. Rooted in the Pilsen community, TRP’s impact now extends across the City of Chicago and through the State of Illinois; we are making steady progress towards leveraging and preserving more than $1 billion in community wealth by 2025.
