TRP Applauds the Supreme Court’s Decision to Uphold DACA
The Resurrection Project (TRP) applauds today’s Supreme Court ruling, stating that the Trump administration’s termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was unlawful.
On November 12, 2019, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments as they considered a decision to review the case. While the decision to end DACA has been part of the current administration’s plan to aggressively pursue the detention and deportation of all immigrants, the Supreme Court nevertheless protected the rights of many young immigrants to live and work in the United States.
There are nearly 800,000 Dreamers that are not only contributing significantly to the social fabric of the United States but also to its economy. The Center for American Progress reported that nearly 203,000 Dreamers are on the frontlines working to protect the health and safety of Americans as the country confronts COVID-19.
“TRP stands with all immigrants and today celebrates with DREAMers. This ruling will protect DACAmented immigrants allowing them to stay with their families, continue to go to school or work and provide for themselves and their families. Although Trump may continue to attempt to rescind DACA, today’s ruling reminds the current administration that they are not above the law. Immigrants are here to stay. We always call on congress to pass legislation to legalize DREAMers and all immigrants,” said Eréndira Rendón, Vice President, Immigrant Advocacy & Defense Project at The Resurrection Project & DACA recipient
While the Supreme Courts’ ruling has removed immediate uncertainty, we demand that Congress take action to institute a permanent safeguard for DACA recipients and their families.
