The Resurrection Project Receives $50,000.00 through Chicago Tribune Charities
Chicago, IL – The Resurrection Project (TRP) is proud to announce that they recently received a $50,000.00 grant through Chicago Tribune Charities, a McCormick Foundations Fund.
This one-year grant TRP received will support La Casa Persistence program. La Casa is a first-of-its-kind community-based college dormitory and resource center that combines student support services with affordable housing; and through community outreach builds college and career knowledge among Chicago’s low-income students and families.
La Casa provides affordable housing to students from different universities who live and learn together, along with academic support and wraparound services that increase their chance of college success. Through community outreach, La Casa staff provides guidance to hundreds of first-generation students and their families about college admissions and financial aid processes.
Programming supports the personal, academic, and professional development of La Casa students, who live and learn together in a unique housing environment tailored to their needs. La Casa’s holistic, wrap around residential services address the high college dropout rate among low-income, Latino, and African-American students.
La Casa’s Career Internship Program (CIP) enables participating students to obtain a high-impact real-world learning experience. In addition to supportive, affordable student housing, a major component of La Casa is its community outreach programs. These programs create a pipeline to college in a low-income, underserved community that faces language and cultural barriers.
This grant cycle, Chicago Tribune Charities distributed $1,250,000 to 17 nonprofit organizations across Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
