The Resurrection Project launches ¡Mí Futuro Tú Voto! My Future Your Vote!
Early voting kicked off in 51 sites across Chicago for the November Presidential election. Latino voters have a lot at stake in this election because many individuals are part of mixed status families that include U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, and undocumented family members living under the same roof or in extended families.
The importance of voting and keeping mixed status families is crucial for the Latino community. The Resurrection Project (TRP) is working to encourage more Latinos to vote and use their collective voice.
In an effort to get out the vote and increase participation, TRP is holding a series of events throughout the election season. Recently, they launched ¡Mí Futuro Tú Voto! My Future Your Vote! This initiative is a nonpartisan effort.
“This relational voting campaign is designed to engage populations who feel they have the most to lose as a result of elections,” said Erendira Rendon, TRP’s Director of National Projects.
“The campaign and online platform provide Americans a concrete action and tool they can use to get their friends and family to vote.”
According to the online site Voto Latino, there are “27.3 million eligible Latino voters who are in a position to impact local, state and national elections.”
TRP’s ¡Mí Futuro Tú Voto! My Future Your Vote! The core idea is simple– give anyone who has anxiety about this year’s election a simple way to make an impact by getting their friends and family to vote while being part of a larger movement.
The campaign is building a ground game by partnering with strong organizations throughout the country that will recruit their staff and leaders to be “messengers” who sign up out to turn out the vote for 10 of their friends and family.
Messengers recruited will set up an account with the online ¡Mí Futuro Tú Voto! My Future Your Vote! platform and will then be given all the information they need to empower their voters (voting location, candidate information, early voting locations, etc.). The goal is to have this online platform serve as an awareness and reinforcement vehicle to emphasize how critical it is to get out the vote in this 2016 Presidential Election.
