THE RESURRECTION PROJECT\u2019S BREAST CANCER AWARENESS GROUP LAUNCHES POP-UP SHOP SUPPORTING BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS<\/strong><\/p>\n

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, March 17, 2019 \u2014 <\/strong>On May 17th, The Resurrection Project’s breast cancer awareness group, ELLAS, launched a Pop-Up Shop supporting breast cancer survivors. The Pop-Up Shop is organized by breast cancer survivors who make it their mission to inform thousands of community members each year on breast cancer education and awareness<\/p>\n

The Resurrection Project\u2019s breast cancer awareness group, ELLAS (\u201cEn La Lucha A Sobrevivir\u201d or \u201cIn the Fight to Survive\u201d), raises awareness and educates Latinas on breast cancer and supports women who have been diagnosed with accessing health services and resources. ELLAS started in 2012 as an effort to bridge the health gap for uninsured and undocumented women diagnosed with breast cancer. \u201cOne of the barriers is our culture, as Latina women we aren\u2019t accustomed to talking about these issues and we don\u2019t know who to turn to. Another barrier is the lack of information, there isn\u2019t enough information in Spanish such as where to get free mammograms and treatment referrals,\u201d said Araceli Lucio, ELLAS Coordinator. \u201cIt\u2019s important for the women in our communities diagnosed with breast cancer to identify with others going through something similar.\u201d<\/p>\n

The grand opening commenced with a ribbon cutting ceremony and introductions from the women of ELLAS. The Pop-Up Shop will directly support services such as free prosthetics, bras, make-up, and wigs for low-income cancer survivors, free transportation to hospital and doctor visits, financial support for childcare assistance during patient appointments, referrals for free mammograms and pap smears, and education and treatment referrals for those diagnosed with breast cancer.<\/p>\n

The store will be managed by the women of ELLAS and will sell new and gently used men, women, and children\u2019s clothing, jewelry, handbags and furniture under 50 lbs. ELLAS branded t-shirts, and sweatshirts will also be available for purchase.<\/p>\n
