TRP \u2013 On The Table: Your Voice Matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Diana Pando<br \/>\nOn Tuesday, May 10<sup>th<\/sup> The Resurrection Project (TRP) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csec.org\/\">The Chicago Sunday Evening Club<\/a> hosted an On The Table discussion with mothers who have lost children to gang violence in Chicago\u2019s Latino communities.\u00a0This event comes at a time when violence in Chicago has dramatically increased. The panel was held at St. Paul Church and was attended by mothers, parish leaders, police officers, and The Chicago Community Trust.<br \/>\n\u201cThis year, we honored the mothers from various parishes in our Latino communities who have not only lost children to violence, but are working tirelessly for peace and social change in their communities,\u201d said Henry Cervantes, TRP\u2019s Safety Organizer.<br \/>\nThe event was kicked off by Raul Raymundo, TRP\u2019s CEO, and was followed by a community blessing by one of the moms.<br \/>\nThe panelists included the following moms who belong to various parishes from Pilsen, Little Village, and Back of the Yards neighborhoods:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maria Mateo, St Pius V \u2013 Pilsen<\/li>\n<li>Doris Hernandez, St Agnes \u2013 Little Village<\/li>\n<li>Maria Chavez, St Josephs \u2013 Back of the Yards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The panel was moderated by Ericka Maldonado of Univision Chicago.<br \/>\nThe dialogue focused on how communities can put faith and values into action to create healthy, safe and peaceful communities.<br \/>\nThe panelists shared their powerful stories and unique ways they are bringing peace to Chicago communities.<br \/>\n\u201cPeople from downtown are listening to neighborhood mothers who have experienced loss,\u201d said Juan Carlos Hernandez, Associate Producer of the Chicago Sunday Evening Club. \u201cThese moms are providing solutions from the bottom up.\u201d<br \/>\nThe moms can often be found speaking to youth on the street and encouraging parents to become more involved with their children.<br \/>\n\u201cWe want you to share our stories with other families and encourage them to participate in peace and parenting workshops in the community,\u201d said Doris Hernandez.<br \/>\n\u201cFight for him before you have to give your own testimonial,\u201d said Maria Mateo. \u201cDon\u2019t gift your child to the street because I don\u2019t want you to have to go through this.\u201d<br \/>\nAfter the panel, guests were invited to participate in facilitated peace circles. \u201cThe solutions are in everyone\u2019s hands and it\u2019s important to continue having these types of events,\u201d said Ericka Maldonado, News Anchor for Univision Chicago.<br \/>\nThe goal of the peace circles was to have meaningful discussions and brainstorm ideas for peace.
