The new loan allows families to apply for citizenship even if they don\u2019t have the immediate financial resources to do so.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Removing Economic Barriers To Citizenship\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/p086IGwl6G4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nThe announcement was made at St. Pius Parish, where TRP and its partners organized a citizenship enrollment workshop to encourage eligible families to apply for U.S. citizenship and exercise their political power. More than 200 families attended, receiving the information and assistance they needed from volunteers.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-11677 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/resurrectionproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/IMG_8315-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"458\" height=\"305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/resurrectionproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/IMG_8315-800x533.jpg 800w, https:\/\/resurrectionproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/IMG_8315-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/resurrectionproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/IMG_8315.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 458px) 100vw, 458px\" \/>Supporting the new citizenship application loan is Congressman Luis V. Gutierrez, who spoke at the workshop and applauded everyone who came out to apply for citizenship<i>.<\/i> In Illinois there are approximately 351,000 Legal Permanent Residents eligible to apply to become naturalized U.S. citizens.<br \/>\nThis new financial initiative is also in partnership with the National Council of La Raza and is part of their Citizenship Savings and Loan Pilot Program.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re proud to be working with The Resurrection Project on this initiative,\u201d says Rudy Medina, President of Second Federal Credit Union. \u201cSecond Federal Credit Union\u2019s citizenship loan will be an important tool in removing the economic barrier to citizenship and helping many immigrant families realize full integration.\u201d<br \/>\nLast year, SFCU introduced an innovative DREAMer Loan, a $465 loan to young immigrants to finance their visa applications for the federal government\u2019s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program. Additionally, TRP will provide financial coaching in conjunction with the loan to assist people in achieving their financial goals.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Resurrection Project\u2019s commitment to families trying to apply for citizenship continues,\u201d says Erendira Rendon, Community Organizer for TRP. \u201cBy working with Second Federal Credit Union we will be able to help them\u00a0on their path to citizenship through innovative financial products that remove financial obstacles that keep them from starting the application process.\u201d<br \/>\nWhen individuals stabilize their status and keep their families together, they enrich the communities they live in and strengthen local and national economies.
