{"id":17430,"date":"2026-06-30T12:15:55","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T17:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/resurrectionproject.org\/?p=17430"},"modified":"2026-06-30T14:00:29","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T19:00:29","slug":"supreme-court-upholds-birthright-citizenship-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/resurrectionproject.org\/es\/supreme-court-upholds-birthright-citizenship-ruling\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court Upholds Birthright Citizenship in Split Ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Resurrection Project\u00a0celebrates the preservation of an essential\u00a0constitutional right\u00a0but warns that the split decision keeps the door open for future challenges.<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHICAGO, IL<\/strong>\u202f\u2013<strong> June 30, 2026<\/strong> \u202f\u2013\u00a0The Resurrection Project (TRP) today welcomed the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s decision in\u00a0<em>Trump v.\u00a0Barbara<\/em>, blocking the administration\u2019s executive order and\u00a0affirming that every child born on U.S. soil is a citizen under the 14th\u00a0Amendment.\u00a0The decision\u00a0arrives at the close of a term in which the same Court handed down a string of 6\u20133 rulings against immigrant families:\u00a0clearing the way to end Temporary Protected Status for Haitian and Syrian nationals;\u00a0letting border officials turn away asylum seekers;\u00a0and weakening the reentry rights of green-card holders. Paired with a new\u00a0$260 billion\u00a0federal enforcement package that targets \u201cnon-cooperating\u201d cities like Chicago, the ongoing legal and legislative assault on immigrant families\u00a0remains\u00a0a real and present danger.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abWe should never accept a future where children&#8217;s constitutional rights are up for debate,\u00bb said <strong>Raul I. Raymundo, CEO and Co-Founder of The Resurrection Project.<\/strong> \u00abToday&#8217;s decision preserves an essential\u00a0right, but it does not fix an immigration system that\u00a0makes families live in constant uncertainty.\u00a0Immigrants are essential to the future of this\u00a0country\u00a0and\u00a0our policies must reflect that reality.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are grateful the Constitution held today, but no one should mistake relief for safety,\u201d said <strong>Erendira Rend\u00f3n, Vice President of Immigrant Justice at The Resurrection Project.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cThis was settled law for more than 150\u00a0years,\u00a0and\u00a0it should never have reached the Court at all.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA right the powerful can revoke from\u00a0one of us can be revoked from\u00a0any of us,\u201d Rend\u00f3n continued. \u201cWe are going to use this win as motivation to keep on working for and organizing with the immigrant families who remain under constant threat every day, just as we have every day for the past ten years.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">As our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding, we are reminded that the work of building a more just and\u00a0equitable\u00a0country is far from complete.
