Newly Purchased Home, A Stepping Stone For New Beginnings

By Diana Pando
Becoming a homeowner can be a complex process. This month we interviewed TRP homeowner Angela Macias. Find out what she had to say about overcoming obstacles and finally purchasing her new home.
Did you have any challenges purchasing a home prior to coming to TRP?
Yes. It seemed like other realtors had already made up their mind on where a customer should buy a house based only on the customer’s income. When looking for a home, I went to several realtors and felt they weren’t listening to my needs. I wanted something closer to McKinley Park or Pilsen but they kept trying to convince us to buy a house towards Midway or in the southwest suburbs.
Why was purchasing a home so important to you?
My husband and I felt it was the stepping stone to a new beginning. When we talked about buying a home, everything was about location. We were looking for something conveniently located to make our daily commuting routine easier. TRP listened to our needs and helped us find a home.
In what ways did TRP help you secure your home?
TRP staff was in constant communication with us, the seller, and the bank. That made us feel supported and they connected us with the classes, a bank, and other special grants to help us with the down payment.
How has owning your own home impacted you?
Owning a home has made us see that the American Dream is possible.
What would you say to someone thinking about buying a home through TRP?
TRP staff will guide you from beginning to end. Just have patience and perseverance. There will be times when you feel lost but make sure you ask questions and call or stop by the TRP office.
