Statement on Charlottesville

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, August 16, 2017 — We are deeply saddened by the display of bigotry, hate and intolerance by white supremacists in Charlottesville, VA this past weekend. This type of demonstration is in complete opposition to traditional American ideals of unity, diversity, and inclusion. Where we should seek to find common ground and mutual understanding, this creates division. Where we should seek to find peace and acceptance, this causes pain. Where we should seek to find respect and compassion, this generates fear. We can only achieve healthier, safer, and more vibrant communities if we come together through love and empathy for all our neighbors.
